The Colossal “Colosseum Di Roma”

What a way to start blogging, as we’ll be talking about the “Colosseum” or “Colosseum Di Roma” precisely. A fascinating form of art and architecture built during 70-80 A.D.

Also known as ‘Amphitheatrum Flavium’ or ‘Flavian Amphitheatre’ as it was constructed by emperors of Flavian Dynasty. It had the capacity to hold over 50,000 to 80,000 spectators at a time, which made it one of the largest stadium at that time.

This great form of architecture was constructed with several different materials which included: wood, limestone, tuff, tiles, cement and mortar. And ofcourse teams of professional Roman builders, engineers, artists, painters and decorators were appointed for the construction of Colosseum.

It was used to host gladitorial shows as well as variety of other events. One of the popular events was the animal hunt which included various animals like lions, tigers, panthers, rhinoceros, such events were on a huge scale.

Although substantially ruined because of earthquakes and stone robbers, the Colosseum is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. It went under restoration due to natural wear and tear and increasing pollution levels in 2011, but due to some reasons it got delayed and then in 2013 the restoration project of Colosseum was completed.

The iconic status of the Colosseum has led it to be featured in numerous films such as Roman Holiday, Demetrius and the gladiators, Gladiator, Madagascar 3: Europe’s most wanted etc.

It was also featured in 1998 The rise of the Rome expansion for the video game age of empires, and in 2010 video game Assassin’s creed: brotherhood.

The Colosseum today is now a major tourist attraction spot in Rome with over thousands of tourists each year entering to view the interior arena. Due to such amazing and exquisite history the Colosseum is listed as one of the 7Wonders of the World.
